Hi!
I’m back. I really enjoyed the time off. A brief recap of the highlights . . .
1- Josh and I enjoyed a great 2-night stay in Captiva (west coast of FL, near Ft. Myers). It was about a 2.5 hour drive and felt so different than our home. We lucked out with amazing weather and honestly we really loved the break from the kids! We biked around, ate out, got massages, and generally relaxed.
Already scheming our next mini-getaway (possibly Sept).
2- I read Untamed by Glennon Doyle. I was prepared not to like it simply because it was sooo popular and I seemed to see it everywhere. However, I did really enjoy it.
3- I am excited to get back to work! I think I had a little bit of burnout from not having any considerable length of time off (not counting when we all had COVID in Dec/Jan, ugh!) in many many months. (Actually probably over a year or close to 2!?). Six days is not that many but it felt really rejuvenating.
4- We have been focusing on improving kid bedtime and I have to say, it has been mostly working. I really feel hopeful that Josh and I will be able to reclaim a tiny sliver of adult evening time (ie: 8:30 – 9:30p) this summer.
Today:
❏ Peloton Strength workout. I took it really easy on the workout front, too. But now I’m feeling motivated again. TODAY = 30 min strength for runners with Becs Gentry.
❏ 7:30 mtg
❏ Email + clinical inbox catchup! I’m curious how long this will take. I have not checked either since Tuesday at ~5 pm.
❏ Graduation planning meeting + some more work tasks
❏ Non-work tasks: approximately 30 min of podcast prep + organize 365 day #25 – PANTS. I am in major spring (?summer) cleaning mode.

Those shorts look awesome on you! Yay for some time away from the kids together! That’s something I really look forward to. Our first night away together from our oldest son was my C-section. Not exactly ‘fun’. Ha. I had been feeling ready to go away and leave Paul w/ my parents last spring and then covid hit… And now that we have a baby, I don’t feel like we can get away until he’s weaned and sleeping through the night (we would leave them with my parents and they are in their 70s so I feel like they need to be in easier stages). So maybe by our 5th anniversary next May we can go somewhere?? A night of uninterrupted sleep + being able to sleep in/laze around sounds amazing.
Glad you are feeling rejuvenated and ready to get back to work, though. That’s always a good feeling! I’m usually ready to get back to my routine/normal life after a vacation, too.
Love the cutoffs! They are now sold out at a bunch of places, so good timing 🙂
It’s amazing what a little time away can do!
You’re rocking those shorts!
omg girl MAJOR bed time breakthrough here! i actually thought we were doing pretty good after about a year and a half of trying every effort/adjustment possible to optimize the bedtime routine. but then… almost on a whim – i got a sunset simulation lamp, and i had. no. idea. not to say it would have this effect on all kids, and if someone had told me i wouldn’t have believed it. but in the 2 weeks we’ve had it, almost instantly, the repeated demands for us to return to their rooms for whatever reason have just dimmed right along with the light, and i still can’t believe it even as i’m typing it! i’m sure any lamp with a timed dimming feature would work, but this is the one we got:

(it’s actually not the easiest to use – multiple presses of multiple buttons to set, so that’s a con of this lamp in particular)
but it’s amber light, and i set it to dim over 20 minutes right before i say g’night and leave their room. (it also has a “sunrise” function – but i’m much less interested in that aspect ha!)
anyway FWIW had to share. certainly wish i had given this a shot much sooner in the game!
very intriguing! Thank you for the rec!!
From that photo of you and Josh I suspect he beaches the same way I do – with every possible bit of skin covered with clothing? I’ve been rocking the long sleeve rashie for years, and keep arms/neck covered out of the water too!
