Travel Weekend

Short but Sweet: Islamorada

May 28, 2022

If you’re keeping track, I am very into 2-night mini-breaks.

Not knocking longer vacations — those are great too — but I love having a little respite and break to look forward to.

May 2021 – anniversary trip w Josh to Captiva

September 2021 – life planning trip w Josh to Vero Beach

March 2022 – podcast retreat with Laura to Vero (same resort!)

May 2022 – anniversary #16 in Islamorada!

We didn’t do anything for spring break (or winter break) but I can’t exactly complain looking at the above. Looking back one year, in addition to the above there was a family Keys trip, a Disney trip, a NC family visit, and an Amelia Island trip in there too. Plus, Josh took C snowboarding. Hmmm, apparently we mostly travel in FL. What can I say — not paying for plane tickets is great, and this state has so many lovely options. Also cold weather is overrated.

Logistics: Annabel spent a night with Bebe & Poppy (Josh’s parents) which made this one particularly special. Our nanny took the other 2 to her house. I took 2 days off from work (and on Thursday used the morning for a lot of podcast recording too!)

ANNIVERSARY #16. That went by FAST . . . very fast.

Our most memorable celebration? Probably 2016 at The French Laundry. I want to do this again in 2026.

Our most disappointing? May 2020, of course! We had grand plans to celebrate my 40th bday + our anniversary Inn at Little Washington. Maybe for my 50th . . .

(Also, we started dating 20 years ago this Labor Day. We will have to celebrate that milestone as well!).

quintessential vac uniform.
dinner at Chef Michael’s – they brought complimentary anniversary champagne!
we had been in 2015 and it was still great
PS: yes i did get a headache and it was my own fault b/c I also had a glass of sancerre — ooops. but again no real regrets.

Very happy there are 2 more days left this weekend to be with the kids – best of both worlds 🙂

Ooh, what is that that you’re eating?? I spy some yummy looking fresh jalapeños, but it looks like a coconut?? Interesting! Very jealous that you can get to places like that with no airfare!!! Also thought of you today and your upcoming Disney cruise- and how amazing it would be to LIVE in a cruise port, not needing to fly, stay an extra day before, etc. Amazing.

Well … that cruise, which is in 2023, leaves from Vancouver bc it’s to Alaska! So it will be an ordeal after all 🙂

We did our initial cruise out of the port of Miami though and it was very easy.

This was a delicious shrimp and lobster ceviche served in a coconut. It was awesome.

Ha! I love old school Birkenstocks. They remind me of my childhood/teen years (though back then I think I had knockoffs!!)

We did the opposite schedule. We just left Sunday to Key Biscayne from St Pete and we will head back Tuesday night. We are in your area for some “different” offshore fishing for my husband’s 40th. Florida living is really great for getaways and this schedule is Best of Both Worlds.
