Previous Months: Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / Jun / Jul / Aug
Side note: I’m not sure I’ve ever kept up with monthly recaps for this long. But I do enjoy writing them!
BIG THINGS:
I completed a ton of creative work!
We enjoyed a great trip to Hawk’s Cay with friends

I had an epic college BFFs trip in Boston/Truro MA

BOOKS READ: (full 2026 list) –> finished 4, plus 2/3 of one NF and 1/3 of a novel that I’m currently reading.
Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner – 9.10; liked this, but not as much as Fleishman is in Trouble by the same author
Big Little Truths by Liane Moriarty – 9.20; LOVED this!

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls – 9.10; I read it because A was reading it for school and I was curious. I liked it a lot but was kind of glad I read along (some tough topics!)
Eat Your Ice Cream by Ezekiel Emanuel – 9.17; I thought it was a logical and sound health advice book.
DATE NIGHTS: Ummm I don’t think we did any (unless going to Back to School Night together counts — and no, it really doesn’t)!!! I thought there was one, but it was actually August 28th. Josh took some call, plus with all the travel it just didn’t happen. (I also will note that I did not plan any in so . . . yeah, funny how that works). Will do better in October – we are determined to do something this weekend and we already have concert tickets later in the month.
HABITS:
Headspace: 15/30
Walk outside: 28/30
Read: 25/30
Listened to music: 28/30
Duolingo: 17/30
I did not play much piano at all. Maybe I’ll bring that back later with some holiday tunes in December . . .
Strength: 14 sessions, 7 at the gym (well, some were at my hotel gym in Duck Key but that counts – it was a very well-equipped gym). All Empowered workouts! Still loving this program.
Pilates: 7 sessions at the studio, all 2.0 classes. I went every Weds night at 7 pm (who am I!?) plus two Sunday mornings.
Walking: 28/30 days, with an average step count of 10,604 (any month over 10K average is a win in my book!)
Yoga: 3 sessions of Yoga with Adriene
Nutrition: Still going really strong here — tracking, protein, all of it. I definitely didn’t eat as high protein on my vacation days, but I didn’t go off the rails either.

TV / PERFORMANCES / MUSIC:
TV –> Ted Lasso x 2 eps, that’s it (!). (We are behind and I’m itching to catch up.)
Movies –> None
Music –> LOTS! I got in the habit of making weekly playlists and had a lot of fun with that (some links coming tomorrow!). My favorite albums of the month were new ones from Sylvan Esso, Beck, Steven R Smith, Medium Build, and This is Lorelei. List above all curated from the NPR Music New Music Friday episodes.
GOALS + HIGH/LOW:
SUCCESSES:
Empowered/gym twice per week (I didn’t on vacation, but that was a planned break so I’m still considering this a success!)
No looking at phone in the car
Continue Sunday family meetings
Reconvene Book Club – yep, happened 9/17 and was fun!
C’s ROOM RESET!!!!! So proud of getting this done.
Add a few fall accents (!) – also surprised I actually did this, ha. But there are nicely scented candles and pumpkins around and I do think we are all enjoying it!
Work stuff / follow Creative Work Plan – victory
Bake one fall thing – these count:

See Hobonichi planners in person – YES
Metaplanning // Figure out next PHL trip – done, though I’m a little dismayed it really doesn’t fit until January
Metaplanning // Plan robotics get-together – tentatively scheduled!
FAILS / ABANDONED SHIP:
Try drawing. I’m not giving up on this, but I DNS’d it in September.
Date nights x 2 – epic fail!
Weekly planning session with C – uh oh. I did want to do this, and it did not happen.
Create fall dinner rotation – nope
HIGHLIGHTS:
Josh WALKING again! And back at work! And able to lift weights, cycle, etc (he is now talking about future triathlon life . . .)
BOTH trips noted above!
Book club reuniting
Lovely retirement party for one of our nurses
Feeling good about getting everything done work-wise (including sticking to my recording schedule + weekly inbox zero)
LOWLIGHTS:
My heart has been acting bratty lately (lots of bigeminy even randomly at rest – my doctors are aware and I have a monitor scheduled for October)
Unexpected tax bomb! (Gah! But hopefully should not happen again, and will be okay. As I noted – the bathroom remodel can wait!)
My dad continues to struggle health-wise, though things looking up a bit past few days
(And usual disclaimer that of course some unbloggable things too!)
