Workouts

Pre-Training Ramp Up for Bayshore Round 2

Post-Marathon Build Back Phase

From a running perspective, I’m in a basebuilding phase after taking it relatively easy for a few weeks after JAX! I feel like I got the break I needed and I think it was good for me. “Official” training starts in a week with an 18-week plan, so right now I’m just mostly running easy mileage.

M: Social run with my friend J, 6 miles at 8:49/mi ave. 64F / 81% humidity.

T: 7 miles with strides at the end in very cool weather! 7 mi at 8:52/mi ave. 61F / 81%. Strength –> 30 min full body with Jermaine Johnson (Peloton). I was supposed to have a training session but A had to see the orthopedic surgeon, so I moved it — but got this home workout done instead.

W: 6 miles easy at 9:24/mi, 47F (!!!!), 89%. This was a serious cold front!

R: 7 miles easy with strides at end at 9:24/mi, 49F, 73%. Strength –> First one hour session at the local semi-private gym! This was a full body workout that included lots of lunges, rows, core.

F: 6 mi easy at 10:14/mi – I was super sore from the strength! 49F, 89%.

S: 10 mi at “long run pace” (per Hanson’s – though they don’t recommend this every week/every mile, the idea is to have a long run pace somewhere around marathon pace + 30 seconds). 8:34/mi ave, 65F, 91%.

S: 20 min barre (Hannah Corbin / Peloton) + 20 min yoga (Chelsea Jackson / Peloton)

Totals: 42 mi / strength x 2 / barre x 1 / yoga x 1

Reading!

I did set up the 2025 Books Page – find this at the header at the top, along with archived lists from 2020-2024 (well, that one needs to be backfilled)!

NF: Shira Gill’s Minimalista:

About 2/3 through and taking notes along the way in the margins

This book is sooooo aspirational but I kind of love it.

F: I finished It Could Be Worse by Dara Levan. I read this for book club and it was not a favorite for a variety of reasons, but in the end I did power through and it grew on me some. As a south Floridian (the author is too) it was fun to see local things referenced.

Screen Time

I am very happy with this average (anything under 100 minutes is a major victory for me!)

Anything under 100 minutes is hard to achieve for me!

Perhaps more importantly, I am happy with the breakdown of this screen time. (The NYT “news” is actually all Games, since I do Wordle, Connections, and the Mini crossword every day. Haha.)

wish I knew what the “safari” breakdown was but I supposed this is detail enough!

Random pic of the week:

A and her friend in matching shoes. Not going to lie, I want a pair too.

I am ready for your to read Wedding People now! It was a favorite of 2024 for me. Just started Slow Dance (from one of the lists you linked to), and I am loving it. It has Eleanor and Park vibes, which was a favorite several years ago.

I reserved it from the library but the holds list was too long so I bought it! It’s up next!!!!

I hope you love The Wedding People as much as I did. Hopefully it wasn’t overhyped. Fingers crossed. I’m starting ‘Sipsworth’ which was a kind of buzzy book in 2024 – it’s about an octogenarian widow that bonds with – wait for it – a mouse… which means me think of Jenny and their pet mice!! It’s an odd premise but is supposed to be a really warm, sweet read. I’ll report back!

That is a great week of workouts and hooray for some cooler temps. I did 3 CG Fuel workouts and now will be in a grand pause for about a month or so during surgery recovery. I do really like these fuel workouts for winter because some include cardio and that is something I get less of during the winter since I only run if the sidewalks are clear and it’s above 0.

Im intrigued by Hanson’s method for running MP during the LR. What’s the rationale? I thought they are also big on high volume.

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger January 13, 2025 at 5:29 am

Not sure! He does say not to do it every run or whole run. Volume is no higher than what we were doing before (if anything lower so I’m adding to it!)

I could be wrong, but I’m thinking Hanson’s is the one where you don’t do super long runs, but maybe you do back to back long (ish) runs? I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it!
Omg the weather. We were in Tampa and it was COLD! I’m loving the forecast for this week : )

yes, but I am going to kind of . . alter that part. I’m not willing to marathon train with just a 10 mi LR every other saturday alternating with 16 but I may compromise with 12-14 alternating with 16-20!
