Workouts

M: Bittersweet group run because one of the members is moving to BRAZIL! We will miss her!! 8.18 mi @ 9:58/mi ave (included a run/walk portion).

T: 2 mi warmup, 12 x (1 min fast / 2 min recovery), 2 mi cooldown. 8 mi total. “Fast” minutes ranged between 6:35/mi (the last one which I pushed on) and 7:10/mi. Strength – Before dinner – 20 min upper body + 5 min upper stretch

W: Run w Jacy, 7 mi @ 8:59/mi

R: Ran mid-day – just felt like I needed to sleep in so I ran as a break at around noon. 8 mi @ 9:40/mi w 4 x 20 second strides. Did strength at around 7 AM – 20 min full body + stretch.

F: 6 mi @ 9:20/mi average

S: 14 mi LR, 7 easy / 7 moderate. Easy miles around 9:20/mi, moderate miles ave ~8:15/mi, overall average pace 8:49/mi. Warmest/most humid run of the week (sadly!). Later did quick lower body strength, 5 min core strength, 5 min stretch (all from Ben Alldis Stronger You, week 2)

S: Mile time trial at the local track! Inspired by the Olympic Trials, perhaps!? This was just for fun. C is doing some running so he wanted to get a baseline mile and G ran 2 x 400m with just a few walk breaks! My track mile was ~6:55 (Strava said 6:52 but then said it was 0.99) and I did not find it particularly enjoyable (approaching anaerobic is not my favorite) but I am glad I gave it a try. Will be fun to revisit later in the summer to see if I can improve a little. Ran ~1.5 mi total including warmup with G.

Total – 52.7 mi, strength x 3 days (might also do short full body today vs push to tomorrow)

working hard! (he gave me permission to post this!)

SCREEN TIME!

Days off of Reddit: 8!

Screen time: Definitely not screen free over here, but improved:

I definitely spent a decent amount of time texting (some stuff going on with a family member – all good now but led to more text time + spent time texting friends). And I did sit there looking up wikipedia pages while watching the Olympic trials races. But I feel much better about those activities than the prior scrollfest. This is definitely a work in progress but I think last week went well overall. I spent more time reading and just felt less scattered overall!!

Your F/NF breakout is so even! I need to update my tracker but I am far more fiction heavy – going to guess 2/3 fiction. My NF is usually memoir/essay. I really want to read BoyMom. Also the parent data podcast about raising boys was very good. I listened on my 6.25 mi long run.

Your screen time is admirable! I don’t look at mine because it trends high since I primarily comment on blogs/blog on my phone and that really adds up. I also read on my kindle ap quite a bit. I wish there was a way to exclude certain aps from the call but I have never figured out how to do that so gave up!

I am 80-90% fiction. I laugh when fellow academics post their summer reading and it’s all biographies of Napoleon, dense histories. And I’m over here reading all the novels. I think I read and write so much for work, I want stories for my pleasure reading.

I feel like I should be able to exclude things from my screentime, like if I have a teams call and it messes up my averages for the week (aim for 90 minutes a day)

I wonder if there’s a way to substract use of podcast, text messages, as I don’t consider them “bad”. I stopped checking phone usage because I do listen a lot of podcast/music during my runs, and use WA/wechat to communicate with friends/family/work.
    mile trial sounds fun!

You’re doing great about being more intentional about your screen time. Like Lisa, I would like to exclude certain apps from the tally because I feel not as bad using certain apps over others.

Great workout week for you too. Your mileage is still pretty high!

Nice week of running. I AM JEALOUS. Grr- I’ve been “running” in the pool and it’s making me a little cranky.
I’m loving the Olympic trials so, so much! I think I like them as much as the Olympics. It’s just so fun to see these people realize a lifelong dream- or not. I’m the one sitting there saying “I feel SO BAD for the guy who came fourth!!!” But it’s super inspiring- I can’t wait to be out there running again. I don’t think a mile time trial is in my future anytime soon though- it would probably send me into a deep depression.

My ONLY complaint about the trials is they need to be on earlier!!! ha!! I want to see the 5K tonight but I think it’s like 10 pm – gahhhh!
